Ontologies

Throughout this guide, we use the term “vocabularies” and “ontologies” or to collectively refer to controlled vocabularies, thesauri, ontologies and taxonomies. Refer to the article: http://blog.thedigitalgroup.com/sheldonf/understanding-skos-with-an-example/ to learn more about these.

As defined by W3C “Vocabularies define the concepts and relationships (also referred to as “terms”) used to describe and represent an area of concern”. The word “controlled” implies that the list of term is restricted to a specific domain.

3RDi studio provides a full-fledged SKOS editor with extended capabilities to edit vocabularies and ontologies. You can create then from scratch or import an existing one into the editor. All your changes remain in edit state alone unless you publish the ontology. On publish, the changes reflect to the upstream applications, primarily the pipeline. This means that the changes will reflect in your search results.
